"Today marks the first time that an electric vehicle, in this case the Nissan LEAF, will participate in a Cannonball Run anywhere in the world. The all-electric Nissan LEAF will hit Irish roads, powered by ESB ecars.
Cannonball begins today with more than 150 super cars.
An Taoiseach Enda Kenny will drop the flag on Merrion Square at 10 a.m., as the vehicles rev up to travel through 14 counties, which include stops in Dublin, Waterford, Cork, Limerick, Westport and Kilkenny. The Nissan LEAF vehicle will motor through the towns and countryside noiselessly and emitting less CO2, having been powered by clean electricity.
As one of the sponsors of the 1000km road trip, ESB ecars will power the Nissan LEAF by plugging the EV into charge points along the route. ESB is trying to demonstrate that trips in an EV around Ireland are possible by using the charging points that have already been established.
Over the past two years, the Cannonball Run has raised more than €235,000 for Barretstown, to help rebuild the lives of children affected by cancer."
