Os nossos sistemas cá usam os cartões de proximidade, também conhecido como NFC (Near Field Communication), e neste momento já existem telemoveis que estão a sair com este sistema de forma a substituir os cartões para pagamentos (e não só).
O Google desenvolveu um API (que ainda está a melhorar com novos features nos updates de software do Nexus S) que permite ler e escrever cartões NFC assim como usar o telemovel como se fosse um cartão destes
