Nissan LEAF Wins Two Awards at 2011 RAC Future Car Challenge

"The Nissan LEAF has added two more awards to its growing collection.
The Nissan LEAF recently competed with 49 other vehicles in the UK’s RAC Future Car Challenge (FCC). Many didn’t know how well the vehicle would do at the challenge, but it turns out the LEAF came out on top. The all-electric Nissan LEAF won ‘The Best Overall Vehicle on Sale at Time of Event’, as well as the ‘Most Energy Efficient Regular Production Car’, due to its frugality.
The Nissan LEAF was monitored by the London Imperial College, with the EV only needing GBP1.83 worth of energy for the 60-mile route. That number may not sound great, but in comparison the best petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles used GBP7.08, GBP5.40 and GBP4.00, respectively.
“Putting the LEAF’s energy consumption into perspective with other power sources was a very useful exercise and one that showed how efficient a 100% electric vehicle can be,” said Jerry Hardcastle, Vice President, Vehicle Design and Development at Nissan Technical Centre Europe."
